Walk The World

From New Zealand to Brazil, more than 700,000 people in over 100 countries will walk five kilometres this weekend to highlight child hunger.

“By engaging citizens from rich and poor countries alike, governments worldwide will heed the call,” the UN World Food Programme's  Arlene Mitchell said of “Fight Hunger: Walk the World.” TNT, a global provider of express, mail and logistics services, initiated the campaign three years ago. Many other partners now also participate.

Some 100,000 children are expected to walk in Sub-Saharan Africa alone, most beneficiaries of WFP’s successful School Feeding Programme. By walking, they are joining a growing chorus of voices across the world in saying that it is unacceptable that 300 million children go chronically hungry.
