Mia Farrow To Help Launch Nigerian Polio Campaign

Mia Farrow, the American actress, was in Nigeria this week to participate in a countrywide polio immunisation campaign on behalf of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The award-winning film actress - recently appointed UNICEF Special Representative for Polio - will join hundreds of thousands of health professionals and volunteers as they prepare to immunise every Nigerian child under the age of five, or an estimated 37 million children.

By joining forces with the UN children's agency, the actress hopes to bring continued attention to the global campaign to eradicate polio until the 20 countries still plagued by the virus become polio-free - a goal UNICEF and other organisations hope to reach by 2005.
