Textbook Success Estonia Graduates from Aid Recipient to Donor Country

After seven years of development aid work in Estonia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is set to end its programme. The country graduated from aid recipient to donor country.

According to UNDP Resident Representative for Estonia, Patra Lantz, the country has experienced a rapid and successful transition to a market economy, and has been a textbook success story, particularly in its use of information technology for development.

Ms. Lantz said that the UNDP offices, which had at times boasted a dozen staff, would be shut down by December 31, but that a few national staff might remain to implement ongoing projects over the next year.
