General
Regarding Hunger/Food Security,
1. What might the EU be doing that it is not doing now?
Consider agriculture in holistic sense. Not env/EU protectionism. And
to get the right balance between promoting food security (which involves
reducing dependence on multinational seeds) and trading in Agriculture
in such a way that alleviates poverty (i.e. stop the race to the bottom).
(ANON 2 UK)
2. How might it do what it is doing better?
3. What are the implications, if any, for European Governance?
Strengthen controls on arms sales from EU member countries. (Robert Anderson
UK)
Specific
4. The EC has been at the forefront of international initiatives to improve
the management of food aid, such as the London Food Aid Convention. Are
these actions sufficient?
5. In negotiation with WFP and FAO, should the EU act and donate on
behalf of all member states? Is there advantage to be gained from a single
point of reference?
6. How successful has the EU been in contributing to the elimination
of hunger? What are they key factors limiting its success?
7. What policies should the EU pursue in regard to fisheries agreements
with developing countries?
What other questions about hunger/food security would you like to see
discussed in the Devpolawar Forum?
